About us
The Studierendenwerk Greifswald offers students a wide range of social and economic services related to their studies and thus makes an important contribution to their academic success in Greifswald, Neubrandenburg and Stralsund.
Duties and responsibilities
The legal form of a public institution of the “Studierendenwerk” illustrates the joint responsibility of the Federal Government and the state of Mecklenburg-Vorpommern to fulfil the social, economic, health and cultural duties of the students of the University of Greifswald and the Universities of Applied Science of Neubrandenburg and Stralsund.
The “Studierendenwerk” fulfils its public duties by administering refectories and cafeterias, operating halls of residence as well as carrying out grants according to the Federal Education and Trainings Assistance Act (BAföG). In addition, the psychological and social counselling of students is becoming more and more important.
The “Studierendenwerk” sees itself as the first contact for students in problematic situations, who need quick and competent help. Especially, the “Studierendenwerk” takes care of students with particular difficulties e.g. students with disabilities, foreign students as well as students with children.
The constitution of economic and social frameworks represents an important competitive factor for higher education institutions. With the organisation of its services, the “Studierendenwerk” makes sure that the costs of study as a whole are reduced. Last but not least, the “Studierendenwerk”, with its more than 130 employees, is a significant employer and economic factor in the region.
